Snow Day Workout

How do you get your fitness on when you’re stuck at home with the kids thanks to the weather? Well if you live in New York and it’s snowing, you grab a shovel and get on outside!

Today was my “rest day” but since the snow needed to be shoveled anyway and the kids wanted to go and build a snow man… “Do you want to build a snowman??” We got bundled up and headed outside for my 45 minute workout which included shoveling snow, carrying snow, throwing snow (over the kids heads), cleaning off the car and making snow balls. It’s excellent packing snow which was great for my kids, less so for me since it means it’s heavy. However, I definitely got my fitness on for a while. One thing I will say is that if you can’t get to the gym and you need to workout whether it be for your own sanity or health you CAN find ways to do that!

We got about 12 inches of snow so I started with our walkway, then the driveway and the part I dislike the most…. the end of the driveway where the plow leaves all the extra wet snow. I had to walk some of the snow across the driveway to an area where there was a place for it since we live in a neighborhood where the houses are close together you have to be careful where you put it. In any case, it was real world deadlifts, pushing and throwing. I did my car last which resulted in more shoveling after that. Of course I got my built in rest every time one of these two came over to ask for another snow ball or “lost a glove”.

Who can possibly resist the cuteness in snow suits?

My quick point is, take an hour, get outside with the kids and get your fitness on in the most practical way you can! After all, Crossfit is about functional fitness!
